| Cropped jeans are a popular item for the summer months. Cropped jeans do not reach to the ankle. But, are cut off, or cropped, at some point between the knee and 5-7 inches above the ankle. Cropped jeans are also referred to as 'cut off' jeans, and sometimes as 'jorts'. Jorts tend to be shorts, made from denim, which do not reach the knee. But, some people broaden the term to include cropped jeans. Like with regular jeans, the cropped variety has side pocket to hold a wallet or mobile phone. And the majority have a couple of back pockets and a couple of side pockets. In the USA, there is a clear link between the sales of cropped jeans and the weather; which is hardly surprising. The states which lead the sales numbers are North Carolina and Florida; which are both hot southern states. There is even a history of derisive chants - in American football - directed at the fans of southern state teams, who are noted for their jort wearing. There are plenty of resources online which give an in-depth study and history of the jort insult.
