Fabric costs could add 8% to the price of Jackets in 2011

Posted - 16/03/11

Leading retailers - amongst them, Debenhams - have issued a stark price warning to consumers. The cost of fabrics - specifically cotton - has risen considerable in the past six months, and retailers will be forced to pass on the rising costs to consumers. One of the garments hardest hit will be denim, which is made from thick cotton.

Although it may have gone unnoticed by UK consumers, the price of clothing garments has been deflated for eighteen years, mainly as a result of cheap production costs in China and India. The current problem for UK consumers - in terms of clothing prices - is that wages are increasing in China and India, and poor cotton crops has led major producers to impose export restrictions.

If you're planning to invest in a new winter or summer jacket, then it's a wise idea to do it as soon as possible, as prices are only going to rise in the upcoming months.
