Section - ISPs

Internet Service Providers or ISPs for short are companies which offer access to the Internet for consumers and businesses. The majority of ISPs rent their access from BT or other upstream ISPs, some virtual ISPs are nothing but a 'white label' front for another company. ISPs can be started by any individual with the desire, money and expertise. Currently the two most popular ways to access the Internet is by a dial-up, dsl, wireless access, cable modem, ISDN or broadband connection. Alongside access to the Internet ISPs usually offer domain name registration and hosting services. Once an individual or business has an account with an Internet Service Provider they will pay a annual or monthly fee, the service provider will then provide a software package, username, password and access phone number. They sometimes include a free modem for new customers, and therefore make it even easier for new customers to log on to the Internet and browse the World Wide Web and USENET, and receive and send e-mail.
