I've been on the gold package for 3-4 years now, it only provides
1Mbps but this is totally reliable. I use the Internet for my home
business and gaming and must be classed as a high end user of resources.
I've typically read of other ISPs severely disrupting the quality
of service for those who use up too many resources. I've never had
this problem with AOL, and whenever I play online games my ping
is good and usually bettered by only a few other players. The live
support is pretty good also, I wanted to change ISPs because I couldn't
get Xbox Live working with AOL. They provided the MAC (migration
authorisation code) to enable me to migrate my broadband service
to another ISP without issue. They did ask for a reason why I wanted
to change providers but didn't push the issue. In the end I plucked
up the courage and purchased a wireless router from netgear and
was able to connect to Xbox Live with AOL. I decided to stay with
AOL because they are so reliable and their customer services are
professional and genuinely helpful.

The service is quite reliable when everything is running well,
but I disagree with the previous reviewer about the quality of customer
services. The last few years it's been relocated somewhere in India,
this has produced staff who provide stock replies from long scripts
of typically questions and answers. Try phoning them the line quality
is so poor it's hard to hear the support person. Their software
connection application is also bulky and time consuming to loadup.
I also had a month of constant disconnection's, the BT free modem
is rubbish, you cannot use the majority of modems with AOL, the
free support line has now been replaced with an expensive phone
call cost. I do like the fact it's unmetered access.
