Our family has owned 2 desktop PC's from Dell. Both costing in
the region of £500-700. Problems?, none in terms of how the
PC's functioned. They come with easy to understand setup instructions,
probably the best I've read when it comes IT manuals. The only real
problem came when we lost one of the installation CD's for one of
the Dell's. Well that PC needed XP to be reinstalled after two years
but we hadn't the CD. We decided to use the CD which came with the
other machine, and use the code still on the side of case. Did it
work? hell no. Dell seem to be the only manufacturer who create
a reinstall copy of XP which will not work on any other machine
at all. It will just mess up halfway through the installation and
leave you with a wreck. The option left was to contact Dell, no
help there because we lost the receipt as well. I recommend Dell
in terms of a professional service, reasonable price and well built
machine which will last you a good few years. The problems come
if you want to alter any hardware and God forbid lose your installation
CD. Dell as a company seem to want their machines left alone from
meddling hands.
