Situated on regent street in the centre of London, the ground floor
has many assistants displaying the latest toys and gadgets. Unlike
say toysrus they have toys and games which are not mass market.
The small time business with a great new game can go to Hamleys
and get a spot to display their wares. Few other toy stores offer
this. Compared to the new warehouse toy stores the size of Hamleys
is perhaps not as impressive as in yester year. They have six or
seven floors of a good size, the basement floor has video games
if my memory serves me correctly. The ground floor has board games
and gadgets. We didn't actually have the time to view any of the
upper floors but have to admit to being impressed by the experience.
We only bought the 'Bedlam Cube' for £6.99 which is a fiendishly
entertaining little puzzle, when we visited the owner was actually
giving an in-store display as we walked around. Since then we saw
the game on dragons den. This is a prime example of how Hamleys
sell the latest toys before anyone else, they create the ground
swell of sales to help new toys take off.
