Greatest store on Earth, and is owned by the controversial Mohamed
Al-Fayed who bought the company after a fight with Tiny Rowland,
who ended up spending millions of pounds feuding on and off with
Mohamed al-Fayed over the Harrods takeover.
Who can blame him however, with a 4.5 acre site which equates into
over one million square feet it's by far the largest store currently
in London. For just one store it produces massive profits, and the
fact it sold for £615 million in 1985 indicates this. But
they were buying the House of Fraser department store group at the
same time.
Even though most of their stuff is high end premium priced stock,
Harrods have a Latin motto"Omnia Omnibus Ubique", which
translated into English means they stock everything possible for
all people. Perhaps the most popular and famous department at Harrods
is the Food Hall, just walking around it is a treat. Harrods pretty
much promise they can locate anything whatsoever a customer desires.
In the past this meant if you wanted a snake, a monkey or any crazily
zane item they would locate it for you.
So how does the site match up? not so well in my opinion because
it lacks the same volume of products, and by a longshot. The only
section which impressed me was the drink and food. It feels to me
Harrods created a website because everyone else has. Not because
they sense a genuine opportunity to make money.
