Also known as Rackhams.
Upper market 6 storey department stores that offer designer brands
for aftershave / beauty items on the ground floor, clothes a bit
further back from the doors on the ground floor, household furniture
and furnishings on the upper floors alongside toys, sports, electricals
and most other things you can think of. Due to low sales they actually
sold some of their poor performing stores around 8-10 years ago.
One to go was in Sheffield, a T.J Hughes discount place tookover
the premises. Local to me they only have a store in Meadowhall,
Sheffield out of town shopping centre next to the junction to the
M1. You can see Meadowhall from the M1, with House of Fraser on
the right hand side, over two floors, if your entering Meadowhall
from the main entrance. Compared to the latest M&S face lift
House of Fraser is looking a little shabby, and I feel in desperate
need of a face lift of it's own. Apart from obviously the toys section
and certain clothing sections the stores send to cater for the over
40s and they seem rather overpriced, I have found most of its goods
alot cheaper elsewhere. Also seems understaffed, I was left waiting
at the check-out, yes there are loads of checkouts, and one for
every sub section of the Branded clothes for example? there is a
till. But they do not appear to have a staff member for each section,
and with such a large store you can go unnoticed and left waiting.
I rather disappointing shopping experience.
