Unisex Perfume

Unisex is a term which describes a product which is designed for use by either sex. It basically means a blindness of gender orientation. It's a fairly modern term, only recently being coined during the heady carefree decade of the 1960's.

The 'uni' section of the term is generally thought to be short for either 'universal or united'. The most common area you will find the term applied is the beauty sector. Beauty and hair dressing salons often advertise their services as unisex. Whilst unisex perfumes are available, they are not especially common. There is usually a clear distinction between male and female scents.

Male fragrances tend to be more powerful and woody, incorporating ingredients such as sandalwood, pepper, cedarwood and amber. Female fragrances are the opposite, light and fruity with ingredients such as delicate flowers, lychee, kiwi, jasmine petals, orchid and magnolia.
