Microwave Containers, Lids and Storage

An important part of microwaving is a cooking container. A microwave container is used for cooking liquid food stuffs such as soup.

The most typical materials used in the construction of microwave containers are as follows,

  1. Plastic
  2. Pyrex
  3. Glass (heat proof)

Whilst the above three materials are the most popular varieties used, they are not the only options available. Assuming the material is not porous, these materials can be used for microwaving,

  1. Ceramic / China
  2. Pottery
  3. Earthen ware

It's been proven that microwaves pass through the above materials with little to no negative effect. However, there are some materials you should avoid using as a microwave container.

The materials listed below tend to reflect microwaves, and should not be used for microwaving,

  1. Metal
  2. Foil
  3. China, ceramic, pottery etc, which feature metal in their construction.
