| The direct drive turntable is the type of turntable used by professional DJs. The advantage of a direct drive turntable is it's quick start time, ideal for when you need swap, spin and scratch vinyl records at speed. The reason why a direct drive turntable has a quicker start time compared to a belt drive turntable is it's higher torque level. The torque level is higher due to the motor being placed directly below the platter on a direct drive turntable, and not to the side, as with a belt drive turntable. Sound quality is comprised with a direct drive turntable, due to the vibration/distortion created by the increased torque and placement of the motor, therefore, a belt drive turntable is recommended for casual listening.
