EcoSilence

One of Bosch's recent development is their trademarked EcoSilence technology. The aim of EcoSilence is to produce a washing machine which is,

  1. Quiet
  2. Fast
  3. Efficient
  4. Reliable
  5. Powerful

The EcoSilence technology is in practice a brushless drive motor technology. A DC drive motor can be controlled in two ways,

  1. With brushes
  2. With a computer

The only real advantage of a brush motor is the cost of manufacture. A computer controlled motor provides more control over the speed and power, which translates into increased efficiency.

The brushes which control a brush motor also wear out and need replacing, a computer lasts longer, which means it is more reliable and durable.

A brushed motor also makes alot of electric static and noise when it forms and breaks connections. A computer eradicates this problem, and of course makes the motor quieter.

A computer controlled motor usually places it's electromagnets on the stator, rather than at the centre of the motor. This results in an improved ability of a computer controlled motor to cool itself.

Another advantage of placing electromagnets on the stator, is that it increases control over the motor. Which results in a faster spin cycle and an increase of power.
