Hot Plate Cooker

A hot plate is a simple and small appliance, used as a portable cooking stovetop slash hob. The primary advantage of a hot plate is it's versatility and portability.

A hot plate as the image above shows, does not replace the function of an oven, but the hobs found on a cooker/stove top.

A hot plate is often linked to those living in cramped accommodation such as bed sits or student accommodation. As it's use is either for those who cannot install a cooker in their accommodation or will soon be on the move.

A hot plate uses heating elements, similar to those found in toasters, which are placed below the hobs to slowly heat the hob rings.

A hot plate is not only restricted to it's domestic use, the scientific community also use hot plates to heat glass beakers in experiments.

The chief advantages of a hot plate are as follows,

  • Cheap, below thirty pounds on average
  • Portable
  • Can be used not only for cooking, such as in science experiments
  • Uses a small amount of energy
  • Can sustain renewable energy due to it's low consumption
