Philishave

Philishave are the personal grooming department of the Philips electronics corporation. Philips are one of the largest and most respected electronics brands, who regularly post annual sales of over twenty billion euro.

Philips were founded and originally had their headquarters in Eindhoven, Holland. Eindhoven is one of the largest cities in Holland, with over two hundred thousand inhabitants. It was in eighteen ninety one, that the Philips brothers, Anton and Gerard, founded the company.

Philips eventually moved their headquarters to Amsterdam. The Philishave division of the company was founded in nineteen thirty nine, at the beginning of World Wide Two. The German invasion of the Netherlands hampered the division's beginnings. The Philishave products were initially manufactured in Eindhoven. They are now made in Drachten, Holland and in China.

The pioneer of the Philishave shaver was one Alexandre Horowitz. A Belgium born Dutchman, of Jewish heritage, he eventually accumulated one hundred and thirty six patents. His most famous patent was for the electric rotary shaver. Invented while at Philips, and a Philishave product.

In the nineteen forties Philishave developed a single head shaver. In the nineteen fifties they developed a double head shaver, and in the nineteen sixties they developed a triple head shaver. In recent years, the CoolSkin series of shavers have been developed by Philips. A moisturiser has been incorporated into the shaver to avoid the risk of stubble burn.

In two thousand and six, Philips has begun to phase out the use of the brand name 'Philishave'. Instead, their electric shavers are simply branded as 'Philips', in countries such as the United States of America.
