Silent System Plus

As the name would suggest, "Silent System Plus" is a technology developed by AEG to quieten the noise produced by an operating washing machine.

The system works in a two fold approach,

  1. A quieter motor, called an "inverter" motor.
  2. Improved insulation surrounding the washing machine's casing.

A typical inverter motor uses an AC current, and can operate without a cooling fan to lower noise. Inverter motors can also use a digital circuit to produce a current which alternates.

An alternating current can produce a high frequency current. And with AEG's insulation aimed at blocking high frequency noise, this is the key to lowering noise.

As of October 2010, AEG have produced four washing machines which incorporate"Silent System Plus" in their design,

  • L16850
  • L14950
  • L14850
  • L14840

AEG are a German company. Emil Rathenau was the company founder. AEG have been purchased by a number of companies over the year. The most recent owner is Electrolux.

Electrolux are a Swedish company, who, like AEG, develop white goods such as washing machines. A number of white goods are now sold with the brand name " AEG-Electrolux".
