| As the above image illustrates, a speaker stand is not only a functional part of hifi kit, it is also a piece of furniture. Therefore, you are not only paying for something to improve the sound performance of your speakers, but something that will look good. A good speaker stand should be sturdy, be able to displace speaker vibration, and be well built, so that it can withstand the weight of a speaker for years at a time. Speaker stands are usually simple to assemble, a prepackaged allen key is the norm. It's sometimes possible to fill the hollow tubes with sand to increase the sturdiness of the stand. As you can see from the picture above, the stand contains four spikes
on the corners of it's base. There is a purpose to these spikes, they
not only keep the stand sturdy, but, they also help to dissipate the vibrations
produced by the speaker. They are an essential part of the stand and should
not be removed. If you are concerned that they may mark a hard surface,
such as a wooden floor, it's to be noted that some stands come with optional
padded feet. If your stand did not come with padded feet, you can place
a smooth piece of metal under each spike. |
