Splashbacks

A splashback is a sheet of metal which is fixed upon a kitchen wall. It is placed behind the cooker hoobs, and usually reaches from the base of the hobs to the cooker hood.

As the image shows above, a splashback is a simple sheet of metal, usually stainless steel. The cost of a splashback can vary. A cheap no frills piece of metal can cost as little as twenty pounds, whereas a stylish splashback can cost two hundred pounds.

The width of a splashback is usually 60cm, the standard width of a cooker hob. The height dimension can vary, to suit the design of the kitchen and hood. The height of a splashback is usually, 60cm, 70cm, 80cm, 90cm, 100cm or 110cm.

The role of a splashback is to protect the kitchen wall from grease and fat that splashes out of the frying pan and onto the wall. It's usually essential for protecting a painted kitchen wall. A tiled kitchen wall can replace the role of a splashback however.

Not everyone will desire a sheet of metal placed against their kitchen wall. And may prefer the aesthetics of a tiled wall. However, a splashback may be easier to clean than a tiled wall, as a splashback is flat and made from stainless metal.
