Types of microwave oven

There are currently four variants of the microwave oven:

  1. Standard - uses the heating process of microwaves solely.
  2. With Grill - works just like a internal grill in a cooker.
  3. With Convection Oven - allows food to be browned and cook thoroughly.
  4. Combination - includes a grill and convection oven.

The cheapest of the options is the standard microwave, then the grill, then the convection oven and lastly the combination oven.

Really, it's all a matter of whether you want a microwave oven to do just that, microwave. Or, you need an extra grill, or desire your microwave food to be crisped and browned.

One disadvantage with some conventional convection models is that the fan is placed at the rear, it therefore protrudes and takes up more space.

The convection oven works by using one of two technologies,

  • A bulb to produce infra-red radiation to brown the surface of food.
  • A heating element and a fan, similar to the technology of an electric cooker.

Convection microwave technology is also referred to as,

  • Speedcook microwave technology
  • Optimawave microwave technology
  • Advantium microwave technology

The combination option can simply replace most jobs a cooker can do, it's not as flexible because it can only perform one job at a time, but it's convenient for small homes or people on a budget who cannot afford a new cooker.
