| One problem that has plagued freezer units is the accumulation of frost. Ice crystals build up whenever the door is opened. The warmth and humidity introduced into the unit is the catalyst to the process. As the frost builds up it restricts the ability of the freezer to circulate cold air, and decreases the performance of the unit. Defrosting the unit is a time consuming process, and unless you have a second freezer, the frozen food in the freezer can thaw out while the defrosting process is undertaken. That's why a 'frost free' freezer is such a boon to own. The ease of use is increased because you do not have the headache of worrying, if, or when, to defrost your freezer. Some of the key advantages of a frost free freezer are as follows, 1. The performance of your freezer is also made more reliable. 2. The lack of frost also makes viewing the packaging of foods easier. 3. The boxes wont stick to the cabinet walls or other boxes. 4. Odours are reduced because the circulated air is not restricted. However, a 'frost free' freezer does use more power. Due to the process of auto-defrosting the unit - dry air is automatically circulated at certain times. This will rise the temperature of the internal cabinet during the process. Frost free units are more expensive, due to the cooling element requiring extra safety insulation.
