| As playback habits move away from cassette tapes, compact discs and vinyl records to digital music files, it's unsurprising that many modern mini hifi systems come with a built-in USB socket. If you are a technophobe, you may ask why?, a USB port allows for a USB memory stick to be inserted into it (picture above). Equivalent to the size of a stick of chewing gum, is may surprise you that just one USB memory stick can hold up to 16GB of data, which equates to storing thousands of digital music files (songs). Therefore, a user can load a whole, or, a large part of their record collection onto a memory stick, insert it into their hifi system, and be able to play thousands of songs without having to constantly switch compact discs or cassette tapes.
